Ideas & Worldbuilding (Ember)

Focus

Transforming from reader to creator by developing original ideas, characters, and story worlds.

Program Description

Ember strengthens students’ understanding of narrative structure during the We’re All Creators phase. They can also begin to shape their own creative ideas through worldbuilding tools such as:

​

  • Character and creature worksheets

  • Initial artwork and maps with prompts

  • Story-starters and visual organizers

Goal

Students start to see themselves as creators, not just readers.

What Students Do

  1. Continue reading the first novel

  2. Complete the Reader’s Guide if the initial novel is Star Life Keepers

  3. Complete the next four chapters in the Story Writing workbook

    • Chapter 6: Story Adventures

    • Chapter 7: Novel Chapter Challenge

    • Chapter 8: Short Story Challenge

    • Chapter 9: Write Your Own Story

      • Based on the Star Life Keepers (sci-fi/fantasy book)

      • Choose a different kind of genre: Genre Discovery Checklist

      • Character Profiles

      • Chapter Prompts

      • Story Organizer

  4. Read the Orion Dragon’s Holiday Tale short story in either the Star Life Keepers novel or the workbook

  5. Complete the rough draft for a short story, following the process outlined in the Story Writing workbook
